One of these bastards. A Mark 4 Golf GLS 2.0. (I know, the crappiest engine of all the mark 4s. But it was cheap, okay??)
Just over 60k miles now. And in bloody good shape!

GG Shrouded and ya we would need to see an actual picture of the car before we actually believe that you got one of these...
Here's the car I drive, it's not a picture of mine but it's one just like it.

Not all of us live in the big city were we can walk to everything within a reasonable amount of time.
It's called rural areas, or country. I live in such an area. It would take me an hour to walk into town and 2 hours to get too school. Lets see... School starts at 8... get up at 5... leave at 5:45, get to school around 7:45 for 8 o'clock classes... ya probably not.

I have plenty of relatives living in such a place in the more un-developed parts of Newfoundland (if you haven't been there, it is difficult land and also prone to more extreme weather than the dainty farmland you posted; I know this because I lived there for a while), and they get along fine with walking (or, more often, using a bicycle) very long distances to and from places. As did I when I lived there. So, yeah... what were you saying?

Wow, and I'm sure they went to school too. More then likely they are farmers which is really a non-schooling proffesion in such an area since you would have it passed down to you in a master-apprentice sort of way. Also because they are probably herders or farmers then they can grow their own food. And they can trade neighbors. They don't have many cars in an undeveloped area more then likely so they don't feel a need for one. Also here we have a job that requires us to be there daily. Once again since they are farmers they have a job that they don't HAVE to be there for as someone can cover for them. Cars are kinda needed here to be able to more effectively live our lives.
I don't like whats happening with the earth but that doesn't change that people will always drive cars. I live on campus and I walk everywhere since everything is fairly close. Yes I do prefer walking but when it requires having to walk 2 hours to get somewhere but I have to be back for a prior engagement in another area. Things are very time constricted. You could have work from 7-3:30 then class on the other side of town at 4:15. Very hard to walk that far in that amount of time. That's what I'm saying.

Most of them work at Port-Aux-Basques or other nearby towns, however their houses are a long distance away. Insult Canada's education system all you want, it won't make you any smarter. Your ignorant stereotype of Newfoundlanders tells you everything we need to know about you. Please learn what you're talking about before talking out of your rear end.
My point? You don't need a car, you want one, that is why you use them. (Why the majority of people use them, indeed.)

Whoooooshhhhh!
I never once insulted the education system. I simply said that more then likely they are farmers which means they wouldn't need to go to school. I never said that the Canadians are stupid. Please read closely before saying I insulted someone. Second I was assuming, yes I know where assuming gets you, BUT when you said un-developed normally that doesn't mean they are going to have a job as an engineer or a buisness person. Most of the time they are farmers, herders, or fishermen. Nor did I say they were stupid, many of the smartest people I have met are farmers or people that required little schooling BECAUSE they are not cocky and see things how they are. So before you tell me that I am insulting people and setting ignorant sterotypes try to read for meaning instead of reading what your brain wants you too.
I know people don't need cars, but you would be hard pressed to find someone who is successful in America that doesn't own one. Because America is so vast and many times people are traveling between cities a bicycle is not optimal and sometimes it's not further enough to take a plane. Trains are no longer pratical as they don't have tracks that go as extend as far as roads. Seeing how Newfoundland is 111,390km it is much smaller then man states in the Midwest and Western parts of the US. I live in IL which is 140,000 km. It's cheaper to drive to Chicago then it is to fly. If I were to walk it would take a week to two weeks. Driving takes 3 hours. Must more pratical to drive and many times confrences for buisness is held many miles away. Cheaper then flying and faster then walking. Cars are pretty much vital to many people's success in America.

Just traded my F-150 in for a 3rd row seat GMC ENVOY.
It's used, but only 15K miles and the price was right. Decided to do this not long after my wife reported that she is prego with my 3rd. And here I thought I was done with 2 kids - I replenished the world.......now another - and there goes my truck. Oh well, the Envoy is nice too.
